What We Don't Collect

Worth stating plainly, because most sites can't:

• No cookies. The site sets none. Not for sessions, not for preferences, not for anything.
• No browser storage. Nothing is written to local storage or session storage. Close the tab and no trace of your visit remains on your machine.
• No analytics. There is no Google Analytics, no tag manager, no tracking pixels, no heatmaps, no session recording.
• No advertising. No ad networks, no retargeting, no data brokers, no affiliate tracking.
• No accounts. Nothing on this site requires a login, so there is no password, profile, or account history to protect.
• No selling. We do not sell, rent, trade, or hand over your information for anyone else's marketing.

The Mailing List

The sticker on the front page asks whether you want to be notified about major Bleak Crush updates. If you type in an email address and submit it, that address is sent straight to Kit (formerly ConvertKit), the service that runs the list. Your email address is the only thing sent. No name, no location, nothing else.

Kit sends a confirmation email, and you are not actually on the list until you click the link inside it. If you never confirm, the address sits unconfirmed and gets nothing from us. Kit stores and processes the list on our behalf under their own privacy terms.

The list is used for one thing: major updates to the database. No daily mail, no promotions for anyone else, no handing the list to third parties. Every email includes an unsubscribe link, and using it removes you immediately without needing to ask us first.

Email You Send Us

The Contribution page lists four addresses for submissions, corrections, bug reports, and general inquiries. When you write to any of them, we receive whatever you put in the message: your return address, whatever name or alias you sign with, any attachments, links, or social handles you include, and the contents of the message itself.

We keep those messages so we can reply to you and keep a record of what was submitted and where it came from. Emails sent to us are never added to the mailing list. Contributing is not subscribing, and the two are kept separate.

Server Logs

Like every web server on the internet, ours writes a line to a log file each time a page is requested. Those lines contain your IP address, the browser and operating system your browser reports, the page you asked for, the time you asked for it, and the page you came from if you followed a link.

These logs exist so the site can be kept running and so problems can be traced when something breaks. They are not connected to your name, not used to build a profile of you, and not shared for marketing. They rotate and are overwritten as part of normal hosting operation.

The Clock

The Bleak Crush Clock reads its countdown from a small database on our own server. The exchange runs one direction only: the page asks for the countdown, the server sends it back. Nothing about you or your visit is written to that database, and it holds nothing but the countdown itself.

Things Loaded From Elsewhere

Most of what you see here is served from our own domain, but three pieces come from somewhere else. Any time your browser fetches a file from another company's server, that company can see your IP address and basic browser information, the same as if you had visited them directly.

• jsDelivr serves the animation library that draws the dragon on the front page.
• Google Fonts serves the typeface used on the Clock page.
• Kit receives the mailing list form, and only at the moment you submit it. Kit is not contacted while you are simply reading the page.

Links Off-Site

The Timeline, The Code, and Leadership & Sponsors pages link out to Fandom's aesthetics wiki, Instagram, GitHub, and various articles and sources. Once you click through, you are on their site under their rules, and this policy stops applying. We have no say in what they collect or how they behave.

Your Device

Bleak Crush is built for desktop, so each page checks whether you arrived on a phone or tablet and shows the desktop-only screen if you did. That check happens entirely inside your browser using information your browser already reports. The result is never stored and never sent anywhere.

Age

This site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect anything from them. If you are a parent or guardian and believe a child has sent us a message or joined the mailing list, write to x@bleakcrush.com and we will delete it.

What You Can Ask For

You do not need an account or a legal reason to ask us about your own information. Write to x@bleakcrush.com and you can:

• Ask what we hold that is connected to you.
• Ask for a copy of it.
• Ask us to correct something that is wrong.
• Ask us to delete your email address and any messages you have sent.
• Ask us to pull a submission of yours from the site, or change how you are credited on it.

There is no fee and no form. We aim to answer within 48 to 72 hours, the same turnaround as everything else on the Contribution page. Depending on where you live, local law may give you these rights formally; we extend them to everyone regardless.

How Long Things Stick Around

• Mailing list: your address stays on the list until you unsubscribe or ask us to remove it.
• Messages: kept while they are still useful for replying, crediting a submission, or tracking a bug, then cleared out.
• Published submissions: stay on the site as part of the database until you ask us to take them down.
• Server logs: rotate out on the host's normal schedule.

Security

The site is served over an encrypted connection, mailing list addresses live on Kit's servers rather than ours, and access to the inboxes is limited to the people running the database. That said, this is a small independent project, not a bank. No site can promise perfect security, and we would rather say so than pretend otherwise. Keep that in mind when deciding what to put in a message to us.

Changes to This Page

If how the site handles information changes, this page changes with it and the date at the top gets updated. Anything significant also gets logged on the Changelog, so you can see what moved and when without rereading the whole thing.
